Healthy nutrition for everyone: Samaritan Association fights against hunger in Vienna!
In Vienna, the Samaritan Association is opening a new cooking station for the popular Samaritan soup pot on the occasion of World Healthy Eating Day. This initiative aims to give people at risk of poverty access to fresh, nutritious meals. From January to March 2025, over 23,000 hot meals have already been distributed to those in need. The soup kitchen emphasizes healthy, affordable ingredients to ensure everyone, regardless of income, has access to nutritious meals. This is also confirmed by Oliver Löhlein, managing director of the Samaritan Association of Vienna, who says: “Healthy eating should not be a question of income.”
The new kitchen at Brigittaplatz will soon prepare 8,000 meals per month, which represents an increase of 25 percent compared to the previous 6,000 portions. Tobias Aistleitner, the kitchen manager, emphasizes that eating is much more than just eating; it promotes community and quality of life. To support this, the cookbook “Let's Cook Together” was introduced, which contains delicious, healthy recipes for a small budget, as well as tips for preserving and preserving, to empower people to cook healthily at home. According to Susanne Drapalik, President of the Samaritan Association of Vienna, this project aims to improve the quality of life of Viennese people suffering from the rising cost of living by teaching them how to prepare nutritious meals without spending a lot of money. In just a few months, over 122,000 portions have already been given out free of charge.
Community and support
This initiative is supported by numerous volunteers and donors. Particularly noteworthy is the collaboration with the BAWAG Group, whose employees regularly cook for the soup kitchen and thus make a direct contribution. According to Enver Sirucic, BAWAG's CFO, the workforce has already been able to give out around 40,000 portions to those in need. Thanks to the new cooking station, the volunteers and the Samaritan Association team can support the hungry even more efficiently, which is a great motivation for everyone involved.
