Burglary with Audi-A8: more than ten weapons from weapons business stolen!
Altstätten, Schweiz - in Altstätten, in the canton of St. Gallen, there was a spectacular slump into a weapon business in the early morning of July 17, 2025. Shortly before 4:45 a.m., a perpetrator rammed the entrance door with a stolen black Audi A8 and stole more than ten fist firearms from two broken showcases. According to [VOL.AT] (https://www.vol.at/unknten-bruch-bruch-kark-in-Waffen-schaft-ein- several fist fire weapons, the property damage has so far been unknown, but the police have investigated and used several patrols and specialist services.
The break-in immediately alerted the emergency call and operational control center St. Gallen. The perpetrators fled in an unknown direction after stolen their weapons. In the run-up to the break-in, theft also occurred in a garage in Marbach, where vehicle key were stolen to an Audi A8 and a white Mercedes-Benz GLC 300. The latter was later left behind near the weapons. The property damage in the garage is more than a thousand francs, while the exact amount of damage in the weapon business has not yet been determined, as bazonline.ch reports.
Investigations by the police
The St. Gallen cantonal police are intensively involved in the investigation. This includes the evaluation of image material and the survey of witnesses. The police ask for information from the population, in particular people who may have made dashcam recordings from the night of Thursday in the Marbach and Altstätten area.
The current security situation regarding weapons in Switzerland raises additional questions. According to [Tagesanzeiger.ch] (https://www.tagengeiger.ch/amoklauf-graz-waffen- und-Waffenbesitz-in-der-Schweiz-3776319134), relatively liberal weapons laws apply in Switzerland. Despite the high number of firearms in circulation, no comparable killing spree in schools such as the tragic incident in Graz has been registered in the past. Security concepts for schools are offered in order to be able to react better in crisis situations.
The popularity of firearms in Switzerland is partly culturally and sporty. However, the tragic situation in Graz, in which several people were killed, raised awareness of the need for careful handling of weapons. Investigations in Altstätten are in a larger context of security and weapons law issues that are increasingly discussed in public.
The St. Gallen cantonal police ask all citizens to report possible information on the two burglaries. Contact to the police can be recorded on 058 229 49 49, and an upload portal for images and recordings has been set up.
