In an alarming incident, a 63-year-old Ukrainian driver was stopped on the A2 southern motorway near Villach. The highway police discovered serious speeding on August 27 when the driver was clocked at 152 km/h at 10:23 a.m. This speed exceeded the permitted limit of 100 km/h by an impressive 52 km/h. The police documented the speed using a video recording, which strengthens legal action against the speeder.

The consequences for the driver were serious. His driver's license was taken away and the onward journey was prohibited. The police also raised a preliminary security deposit of several hundred euros in order to punish the serious violation of the traffic regulations. These strict measures should not only be responsible for the traffic offender concerned, but also send a strong signal to other road users.

Traffic incidents at a glance

These types of speeding violations are not just isolated. According to kba.de, speeding is one of the most common traffic offenses. In 2024, more than 1.8 million speeding violations were registered by men and over 547,000 by women in Germany alone.

The database for traffic violations, the fitness to drive register (FAER), stores all relevant information on traffic offenses and administrative offenses. On January 1, 2025, around 10.1 million people were registered there, which indicates the significant number of traffic-related drivers.

The incident on the A2 shows that speed overruns have serious consequences and the authorities are determined to ensure traffic safety. The behavior of the Ukrainian driver is an example of the need for increased controls on the highways and the consistent punishment of violations. Such measures are crucial to guarantee the safety of all road users.
