Heart mobile Lower Austria: Revolutionary Telemedicine improves quality of life!

On September 16, 2025, the innovative Herzmobil Lower Austria project was launched in the Wiener Neustadt, Lower Austria State Clinic. The aim of this project is to support patients with heart failure. After dismissal from the hospital, those affected receive a comprehensive set of aids. This includes a scale, a blood pressure monitor and a cell phone on which an app is installed that can be used to enter health data such as weight, pulse, blood pressure, medication and general health. These digital tools are part of a holistic approach to improve the quality of life of the patients.

The medical care team monitors the entered data daily and reacts immediately when abnormalities are found. This is done in order to recognize potential health risks at an early stage and subsequently take suitable measures. A patient named Karl Grandl expressed a positive statement about his experiences with the app and emphasized the quick reaction of the care team. The aim of the project is not only to increase the quality of life of those affected, but also to relieve the health system. In Lower Austria there are around 25,000 clinic stays annually due to heart failure.

Financing and long -term goals

The Herzobil Lower Austria project has a total budget of around seven million euros that extends over a period of five years. The financing is carried out by various positions, including the state of Lower Austria, the Lower Austrian State Health Agency, the Lower Austrian Health and Social Fund (NÖGUS) as well as the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) and the Medical Association for Lower Austria. In the long term, the project is aiming to accompany up to 2000 patients a year over a period of three to six months.

Telemedicine as a key to better care

In the context of modern treatment methods, telemonitoring plays an increasingly important role, especially in chronic diseases such as heart failure. [Herzstiftung.de] (https://herzstiftung.de/service-und-aktuelles/Pressemitteilungen/telemedizin- heart) emphasizes that telemonitoring is recognized as an independent examination and treatment method. In addition, large parts of the cost of telemonitoring are covered by statutory health insurance companies.

The continuous transmission of relevant health data such as body weight, blood pressure and EKG serves to monitor individual limit values and to avoid unnecessary clinic stays. According to Prof. Dr. med. Friedrich Köhler can even be life -saving such a digital care umbrella for patients with severe heart failure. Latest studies, such as the Passport HF study, also examine remote monitoring control of blood pressure in pulmonary artery in order to identify decompensation at an early stage.

Thus, the Herzmobil Lower Austria project takes an important step towards innovative and patient -oriented care, which both improves the quality of life and relieves the healthcare system. Together with the support from telemedicine, sustainable progress in the treatment of heart failure could be achieved.
