Guests of honor and their messages

The guests of honor included Mayor Martin Treffner, City Councilor Helmut Kraßnig and the State Jägermeister deputy Georg Helmigk. These representatives of the local community emphasized the responsibility associated with hunting and the important role that hunting plays in nature conservation. District hunter Andreas Zitterer and councilor Birgit Schurian were also present and expressed their support for the hunters.

Hunting is considered a means to enable the coexistence of all types and is above all a sign of the connection between people and nature. Hunters are active at any time of the day and season and are responsible for the management of nature. This not only includes the protection of game stocks, but also the design of habitats, which would not be possible without hunting. The Carinthian hunters sees itself as a bridge builder between human cultural interests and the needs of game.

A look at the history of hunting

The history of hunting extends over thousands of years and is one of the oldest activities in human history. Our ancestors chased 1.7 million years ago to eat. In the Middle Ages, hunting became increasingly a privilege of the nobility, while farmers were often affected by hunting bans. Over the centuries, hunting has developed and adapted to the changing social conditions.

Hunting not only promotes social skills, but also the specialization and division of labor within communities. With the introduction of hunting laws and the establishment of hunting clubs in the 19th century, the regulation of hunting became more important. In Germany, significant steps were taken to modernize and adapt the hunting right, which is relevant to the present day. The women's shares in hunters have also increased significantly over the years, which reflects a change in perception and roles within the hunting culture.

The Jägerfest in Oberglan was therefore not only a happy team, but also an opportunity to appreciate the cultural and historical importance of hunting and to promote dialogue about responsibility in nature.
