Dorli Muhr: With 98 points to the world tip of the red wines!
Obere Spitzer 1, 2461 Prellenkirchen, Österreich - On July 17th, 2025, an important milestone for the Dorli Muhr winery in Carnuntum was reached. Her blue -limed Ried Spitzerberg Obere Spitzer 1ötw 2022 received outstanding 98 points from the renowned Robert Parker Wine Advocate. This assessment represents the highest award ever given to a domestic red wine in Austria. Critics Stephan Reinhardt describes this wine as "full -bodied, silky and very elegant" and emphasizes floral flavors as well as complex notes of toast and tobacco, which are complemented by a salty seasoning. The wine owes these special properties to the unique soil nature on the Spitzerberg, which is characterized by Kargem limestone and constant wind, which leads to the creation of elegant, profound wines.
Dorli Muhr, who founded the winery in 2002 with the aim of winning 500 bottles of wine for friends, has since developed into an important player in the wine world. In recent years she bought steep plots on the Spitzerberg, which some were dismissed by some. Today she manages twelve hectares vineyard with a lot of manual work and individual care of every vine. This is done in accordance with biological practices, which are also fermented in the basement by gentle working methods without pumps and with traditional tread.
high ratings and rich variety
The impressive 98-point rating is not the only success for Muhr. Other wines from their range were also highly praised: "Obere Roterd" received 97 points, "Liebkind" scored 96 points, while the wines "Ried Spitzerberg" and "Prellenkirchen Samt & Seide" received 95 and 91+ points. The wines of Dorli Muhr are now represented in 24 countries, especially in top gastronomy.
An important basis for wine production in the winery is biodynamic viticulture, which is also becoming increasingly important in Austria. This cultivation technique, which is based on Rudolf Steiner's teachings, emphasizes the connection between humans, nature and cosmos. The biodynamic viticulture uses special preparations made of natural materials and also takes into account moon and planet cycles when growing and harvesting. In 2022 there were a total of 1,444 hectares of biodynamically managed vineyards in Austria, which is about 15 % of the biological acreage. The Demeter seal is a well-known sign for such certified companies.
Thanks to the high quality standards and the innovative cultivation methods, the Spitzerberg has taken a permanent place in the Austrian wine landscape below the large vineyards in Europe. Dorli Muhr's success shows that Austrian wines can also draw attention to itself internationally. You can find more details about the winery on the page of Vivino .
