Arnautovic breaks Europa League record after 16 years!

The Austrian football player Marko Arnautovic reached a remarkable milestone in his career on September 25, 2025. In the UEFA Europa League game between Red Stern Belgrade and Celtic Glasgow, he scored the equalizer to 1-1, which secured his team a valuable point. With this goal, Arnautovic set a new record: 16 years and 217 days after his last goal in the Europa League, he was finally successful again.

Arnautovic 'previous goal in the Europa League fell on February 19, 2009 when he scored against Olympique Marseille for Twente Enschede. The way back to the scorer list was long and it makes this moment all the more important. In recent years, however, the 35-year-old has been able to shine more than once.

Champions League records

Apart from his record in the Europa League, Arnautovic also keeps another impressive record in the Champions League. He is now the player with the longest period of time between two goals in this competition. Between his first goal on December 7, 2010, when he scored for Werder Bremen against Inter Milan, and his current goal for Inter Milan against Benfica on November 29, 2023 there were 12 years and 357 days.

He is also the oldest Austrian scorer in the Champions League. He reached this record at the age of 35, five months and twelve days when he met his team's account in a game against Red Stern in the 4-0 victory for Inter. He surpasses Mario Haas, who has so far been the oldest Austrian who scored a goal in the main competition of the Europa League or its predecessors. Haas was 37 years and 13 days old in his goal.
