Small van accident on the A25: six kilometers of traffic jam near Weißkirchen!

On October 25, 2025, two serious traffic accidents occurred on the A25 Welser Autobahn near Wels, which resulted in one death and several injuries. The first incident happened on Saturday afternoon when a van traveling in the direction of the Haid junction crashed into the central guide rail. The fire brigade, rescue services and motorway police were quickly on site to carry out the necessary clean-up work. For about an hour, the A25 was only passable at the hard shoulder, which led to a backlog of about six kilometers, reports Fireworld.

The second accident occurred on Monday morning when a minibus with eight people on board collided with the rear of a stationary truck trailer after splitting with the A8 Innkreis motorway. The Bulgarian driver of the minibus apparently overlooked the end of the traffic jam and hit the tractor-trailer with full force, which was parked with the hazard lights on. Despite resuscitation measures being initiated immediately, a 53-year-old Bulgarian passenger died at the scene of the accident, while seven other passengers were injured, some seriously. According to Tips, the injured had to be transported to surrounding hospitals.

Operations and traffic situation

The rescue workers were on site with an extensive deployment of eight rescue vehicles, two emergency medical vehicles and even two emergency medical helicopters. The A25 had to be closed for several hours in the direction of Linz, which resulted in a diversion via the B137 Innviertler Straße, the A8 Innkreisautobahn and the A1 Westautobahn. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. and not only left numerous people injured, but also a tense traffic situation in the region.

The current accidents shed light on the already critical road safety on the highways. According to Destatis, traffic accident statistics serve to obtain comprehensive data on accidents and to develop measures to improve traffic safety. These statistics are essential for legislation, traffic education and infrastructure policy to better understand the causes of such tragedies and prevent future accidents.
