Wendy Holdener beats everyone: silver medal breaks the Swiss negative streak!
Wendy Holdener was crowned world champion in combination with a victorious performance at the Ski World Championships in St. Moritz. After a nervous slalom run, where she couldn't really believe she could win, it was finally the silver medal for her teammate Michelle Gisin that made Switzerland's double success perfect. When Holdener was asked by Michaela Kirchgasser if she could cut her hair if she became world champion, she could only happily answer: “It’s indescribable.”
But while the Swiss athletes are celebrating, there are dark clouds in the skies of the World Ski Championships: Lara Gut suffered a serious injury in a serious fall while preparing for the combined slalom. She was transported by snowmobile and then flown to the hospital, where it was discovered that she had suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn meniscus. This terrible diagnosis not only ends her season, but also shocks the entire ski community.
Success celebration and well wishes
In contrast to Lara Gut's injury, the mood is the main focus for Holdener and Gisin. The Swiss double success will certainly be celebrated in style in the coming nights, with popular locations such as the “House of Fans” and the “Cow Bar & Grill”, where the atmosphere will be loud and exuberant. “Cool atmosphere at the combined race,” wrote triathlete Nicola Spirig and congratulated on social media. The anticipation and the party atmosphere in St. Moritz are palpable after this sporting highlight, but the wishes for Lara Gut's recovery cannot be overlooked - Belinda Bencic sent over "very well," and Mikaela Shiffrin also expressed concern about the Swiss woman's condition.
