SPÖ pushes green budget deficit - climate protection plans on the agenda!

Österreich - On June 15, 2025, the SPÖ federal manager Klaus RAUSHEIM commented on the latest statements by Greens boss Kogler. In the ORF “press hour”, rarely fought the claims of Kogler's claims vehemently and made it clear that the Greens have a significant share in the current budget deficit. He criticized Kogler for trying to downplay the Greens' failures in the past five years. The SPÖ, on the other hand, has taken measures to combat the climate crisis on its agenda, which were not previously implemented by the Greens.

The planned initiatives include the introduction of a climate check to check the climate effectiveness of laws and regulations. In addition, a new heating boiler exchange is to be started after the financial resources have been used up under the former minister. Further investments are planned in transportation, in particular transports should be shifted from the road to rail.

budget cuts and climate goals

The budget for the environment, climate and circular economy area provides for a total of 2.19 billion euros for 2025, which corresponds to a decline of 2.69 billion euros (55.1 %) compared to 2024. Further cuts are also planned for the budget 2026 at 1.37 billion euros. The main reasons for this selection are the deletion of the climate bonus and the replacement of energy agents in other chapters.

RATHERHEIM underlined that the SPÖ assumes responsibility for the budget hole, which was caused by previous governments. This should be done by a socially just renovation, with banks and energy companies to make a contribution. Nevertheless, climate protection is not neglected, but continues to be prioritized, despite the saving of savings.

important legal projects

In the coming week, a decision will be made in parliament for several overdue laws, including the Klimgersetz, the Electricity Economic Act and the Renewable Expansion Acceleration Act. These laws were not advanced during the reign of the Greens, although they are considered necessary to create a framework for future climate protection measures.

Minister Norbert Tettschnig pointed out that there will be a record level of heating boilers for 2025, with the aim of replacing 30,000 boilers per year. In connection with international climate protection policies and the EU Renaturierungsverorde, the associated costs of the whole of Europe will cost 154 billion euros. These initiatives are also in the context of EU climate policy, which aims to mitigate the effects of climate change and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the national climate social plan is created in order to cushion the CO2 prize in a socially important one in view of the extensive challenges in climate protection. Due to the challenges, rarely emphasizes that despite the challenges, the SPÖ will advance climate protection, while the necessary financial and political framework conditions must be ensured by the government work.
