Spading for new fire station in St. Marienkirchen - a milestone!

On August 25, 2025, the official groundbreaking for the new fire station of the St. Marienkirchen volunteer fire brigade took place. This event is a long -awaited milestone for the community, since the project has been on the wish list for almost two decades. Commandant Patrick Sommer and his deputy Christian Schmidseder have accompanied the planning process over the years. The existing fire station no longer meets the increasing requirements that are placed on modern facilities.

The new, two -storey head building will offer five garage places, a community filling station, a washing area and a disaster protection camp. The aim is to create optimal conditions for the training of the active operational team and the youth group. Games at the ceremony were Mayor Ing. Bernhard Fischer, members of the local council, State Councilor Michela Langer Weninger and the deputy state fire brigade commander Michael Hutterer. Representatives of the planning and construction companies as well as neighbors were also present. The construction work should progress quickly in the coming months and take special consideration of regional companies in order to support the domestic economy.

Comparison with other projects

Similar developments can also be observed in other communities. On July 3, 2025 in Kleinblittersdorf, the groundbreaking ceremony for a new fire station at the game and sports hall was carried out. This step follows a fundamental decision of the municipal council from 2021 after several years of preliminary planning. Here the new fire station will include three parking spaces for fire engines, a training room and other modern rooms. In addition, the technical operations management of the municipal military service will be accommodated in the new building, which is responsible for the coordination in large damage situations.

The currently used building of the Kleinblittersdorf fire department dates from the 1950s and was converted from an old barn. It no longer corresponds to the contemporary requirements, which is why the previous garages had to be enlarged several times. The planned construction costs for the new fire station amount to five million euros, with one million euros being subsidized from the state as a need for needs. The shell construction work is scheduled for August 4th, and the completion is planned for the end of 2026/early 2027.

Investment backlog and security

These new construction projects are in the context of a comprehensive investment at a total of 16.3 billion euros in cities and municipalities, which also includes fire station. Many of these buildings date from the 1960s and 1970s and no longer meet the current requirements. Firefighters play a central role as contact points for rescue operations and training and are crucial for the safety of the emergency services. The DGUV information 205-008 offers orientation for compensation measures, which, however, should be replaced by structural measures in the long term.

The security in fire station is of great importance, since the fire brigade's sponsors are responsible for the health protection of the emergency services. Alarm cases bring special dangers with them, while the accident prevention regulations already indicate the need for new security concepts. Location analyzes and the integration of external experts play an important role in taking individual security requirements into account and closing the existing gaps.
