Sommer reading club starts: reading, collecting and winning in Vienna!

From Monday, June 16, 2025, the Summer Reading Club of the City Libraries starts in Vienna, a program that is aimed at children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 14. The aim is to promote reading and the associated skills and awaken the fun of books. The collective period for the participants extends until September 12, 2025.

The central element of the event is the Pickerlheft, which is available in all branches of the Viennese libraries. With this booklet, participants can collect stickers that are awarded for reading books, comics, magazines and other media. At the end of the program, the participating children have the opportunity to win prices and receive a reading certificate. It should be emphasized that library cards are spent free of charge for all people up to 18 years, which makes access to the offer easier.

offers and rewards

The libraries offer a wide range of materials, including books, eBooks, audio books and even console games. In order to obtain the picker booklet, the participants must first fill out a rating sheet, which must be submitted after the first evaluation. For each assessment, the children receive a couvert with three surprise pickers. The deadline for submitting the reviews runs until September 12, 2025 in one of the branches of the libraries.

In addition, various exchange exchanges for pimples are intended as part of the summer reading club, where children can exchange double material. These take place on set dates in different libraries. For example, on July 10, August 21 and September 4, there is the opportunity to exchange Pickerl in the Wieden library from 4 p.m.

advantages for language development

The importance of reading for the linguistic development of children is repeatedly emphasized. Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling points out that good reading skills are essential for creativity, language acquisition and reading strength. According to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, reading skills are key competencies that have a significant impact on educational success.

In addition, the initiative shows that children with different linguistic skills start to school. Therefore, programs such as the summer reading club are important to provide all children at an early stage access to books and the world of reading, regardless of their social origin.

The summer reading club offers an excellent platform to motivate children and adolescents to make reading part of their everyday life and at the same time to support them in their linguistic development. It remains to be seen how many participants will register for the program this year and what surprises are waiting for you.

Further information can be found on the website of the libraries Vienna that provides detailed insights into the program and the various offers.

Overall, the signs stand well for a successful summer full of reading adventures in the capital.
