Carinthian Masters shine: Pure records at ÖM in Amstetten!
On September 15, 2025, the Carinthian delegation presented itself in excellent form at the current competitions. The Carinthian Athletics Association (KLV) was able to achieve a total of 29 titles, with the LAC Klagenfurt particularly highlighted with 20 titles won. These successes are not only a sign of the performance of the athletes, but also proof of the continuous promotion of sport in the region. Click Carinthia reports an impressive yield of records, including twelve national records and two Austrian records.
An outstanding example is Veronika Watzek from the KLC, which set up a new state record with 47.32 meters in the class W40 discus throw. In addition to her record win, she also secured the titles in the shot put and hammer throw. The 75-year-old Valentin Topitschnig (Lac Klagenfurt) was also able to shine, he won four times and improved two Austrian records over 400 meters.
Triumphant athletes and their achievements
The success of the Carinthian athletes is not only limited to Watzek and top -beat. Other athletes such as Michael Künstl (M55), Oliver Münzer (M55) and Angelo Quaglia (M60) also achieved remarkable achievements. Ingrid Bluch (W55) and Adawai Arhour (W35 )'s high jump and litter services set further sporting accents in these competitions.
The positive results in Amstetten are particularly notable because they are in the context of the long success story of Carinthian athletics. On September 11, 1971, a significant national record for the 4×400 meters was set in Graz, which is still valid 50 years later. The KLC quartet, consisting of Wolfgang Miklautsch, Gert Weinhandl, Karl Woschitz and Walter Grabul, not only achieved a national record with a time of 3:16.20 minutes, but also set an Austrian record at the same time. KLV states that it is unusual for such a record to last for decades.
Looking back on a great career
The historic record from 1971 was celebrated by the then athletes and their coach Dolfi Huber at a meeting. After their active careers, the four athletics veterans remained loyal to the sport. Walter Grabul is a reporting and regulatory officer for the Carinthian Athletics Association, while Karl Woschitz and Wolfgang Miklautsch are board members of the LC-Villach. Gert Weinhandl has made a name for himself as the coach of LC-Villach. 5min emphasizes that records in sports are there to be broken and always challenged.
The achievements of current and past athletes are evidence of the consistent quality and ceaseless competition in Carinthian athletics. These successes are an incentive for the future to continue achieving great things in sport.
