New bike path: Eurovelo 15 now connects Austria and Liechtenstein!

Vaduz, Liechtenstein - On July 11, 2025 there was a significant news for cyclists in Europe: the Eurovelo 15, known as the Rheinradweg, was expanded by a new, 62 -kilometer section, which now also integrated Austria and Liechtenstein. This expansion was announced on the occasion of World Bike Day by the European Cyclists ’Federation (ECF) and increases the number of countries crossed by Eurovelo routes to a total of 39, a milestone for the European cycle path network.

The new section mainly runs on the right side of the Rhine, starting in Trübbach and to Lustenau. Previously, Eurovelo 15 was only active near the Swiss border and had not passed the Principality of Liechtenstein. With this expansion, cyclists can now also experience the capital Vaduz while cycling through Liechtenstein.

integration into the cycle path network

The westernmost state of Austria, Vorarlberg, is included in the European Road Road network through this new route. In Liechtenstein the route of the Regional Rhine Valley Route (number 35) follows, while the section in Vorarlberg is part of the Ill-Rhine route. The new routes are largely paved and well developed, which makes them an attractive option for both leisure cyclists and for everyday drivers.

along the route, cyclists can look forward to comprehensive signage that includes Eurovelo signs (number 15 surrounded by twelve yellow stars on a blue background). This is intended to make navigating for cycling and make sure that the new routes are clearly recognizable.

joint efforts for tourism

The realization of this expansion is the result of intensive cooperation between various institutions, including Switzerlandmobility, the Swiss National Eurovelo Coordination Center, the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Austrian province of Vorarlberg. These partners consider Eurovelo as an important impetus for tourism in the region south of Lake Constance and promote cycling for both leisure activities and everyday trips.

The introduction of the new cycling route will not only improve the accessibility of the region, but also contribute to promoting sustainable traffic. Eurovelo is increasingly developing safe, direct, uniform and networked cycling structures to make cycling more attractive in Europe. This commitment is also promoted by support and donations from individuals and organizations that can receive exclusive Eurovelo Mercchandise articles in order to further promote the development.

With all these developments, the Eurovelo 15 is not only a further step in the implementation of a comprehensive cycle path network, but also an invitation to cyclists from all over the world to explore the beauty of the region between Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.
