Klagenfurt: Caritas starts big school-specific collection!

Adolf-Kolping-Gasse 6, 9020 Klagenfurt, Österreich - Caritas Carinthia launched a call for donations on July 2, 2025 to support families at risk of poverty, especially in the time before the start of school. On the occasion of the upcoming summer vacation, well -preserved school articles of all kinds are collected in Klagenfurt to offer children a better school starting position. In Villach, on the other hand, the action under the motto "Monster Bag" focuses exclusively on collecting school bags and school backpacks. This initiative aims to help the parents and ensure that their children can start the new school year. According to click Carinthia, the donations in Klagenfurt are possible from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The central fundraising place is located in Adolf-Kolping-Gasse 6 in Klagenfurt.

The collected articles include a wide range, including kindergarten bags, booklets, pens, fountain pen holders, rulers, gymnastics and scissors. These must be in a good condition so that you can continue to be used. Mario Slamanig from Caritas Carinthia emphasizes the importance of this campaign for education and poverty.

The global dimension of child poverty

The challenges of child poverty are not only locally, but of importance worldwide. According to Caritas Austria, every second person who lives in extreme poverty lives as a child. Of around 900 million people who live in extreme poverty, 47% are younger than 18 years. These alarming numbers reflect the reality that many children, especially in regions such as Africa south of the Sahara, have to live under conditions that significantly endanger their chances of survival and future perspectives.

The statistics are also depressing: Almost 50 million children have left their homes worldwide due to violence and conflicts. Every year, 5.9 million children die from avoidable diseases before reaching their fifth birthday. This shows how urgently measures are necessary to combat child poverty and relieve their suffering.

The situation in Germany

In Germany, the situation is not easier, where according to dkhw every fifth child is affected by poverty. Here, too, child poverty has been stagnating at a high level for almost two decades. The main reasons for the persistently high rate are the unemployment of the parents and the increasing number of full -time employees, the income of which is only slightly above the social assistance rate. Single parents and large families who are often dependent on citizens' allowance are particularly affected.

The increasing cost of living by inflation further tighten the situation. It is urgently needed to strengthen support measures to help affected families and to ensure equal opportunities for children.

In view of these challenges, the donation campaign by Caritas Carinthia is a first step to relieve some of the need and to provide support to the families concerned in Carinthia. Further information is available on the Caritas Carinthia website.
