Austria's most beautiful places: 27 places in the race for the title!
On September 24, 2025, the ORF TV show “9 Places – 9 Treasures” starts its twelfth round, in which the most beautiful places in Austria are searched for. All 9 federal states are represented, with a total of 27 special locations to choose from. This tradition of showing the diversity and beauty of the Austrian country is very popular. The show's presenters, Armin Assinger and Barbara Karlich, are actively supported by the presenters of the ORF regional studios and prominent guests.
The public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite location by phone or text message between September 26th and October 1st, 2025. The state winners will be announced on October 6, 2025. The pre-selection includes the Zollnersee and the Danielsberg in Carinthia as well as numerous other places from the other federal states, such as the Buchbergkirche in Salzburg or the Silberzeile in Upper Austria.

Tourism in Austria in focus
The program “9 Places – 9 Treasures” not only has entertainment value, but also contributes to promoting tourism in Austria. In 2022, the tourism sector generated revenue of around 17 billion euros, which accounted for 3.8 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). The numbers are continuously increasing, and the 2023 summer season in particular reached a new high of 16.6 billion euros. Tourism is an important economic sector, characterized, among other things, by around 70,200 accommodation establishments and around 1.17 million available beds, which illustrates the attractiveness and performance of the industry.
With around 57.4 million overnight stays, the German guest group represents the largest number of visitors in Austria, followed by domestic guests. While the industry is facing challenges such as a shortage of skilled workers and a declining number of apprentices, the “9 Places – 9 Treasures” event also shows the positive sides of tourism, which contributes to the preservation and promotion of Austria's cultural and natural treasures.
In addition to the votes to choose the most beautiful places, the program “9 places – 9 treasures: Austria is so beautiful” will be broadcast on November 17, 2025, where all 27 places will be presented again in detail.
