Carinthian Lyric Prize 2025: 14,000 euros for creative word acrobats!

On September 16, 2025, the 18th Carinthian Lyric Prize was advertised as part of a press conference. The competition is aimed at all word acrobats in the region and invites both Carinthian lyricists and Carinthian living abroad to submit their poems and lyrical contributions. Interested participants can submit up to four unpublished poems in German or Slovenian by October 24, 2025. The poems must be submitted anonymously, whereby the senders have to give up their names and contact details separately. The conditions of participation stipulate that no dialect stories, but only lyrical works are permitted. Another submission of already submitted works is not permitted.

Price distribution and jury

The prize money is distributed as follows: The first price is 5,000 euros, followed by a second prize with 1,500 euros and a third prize of 800 euros. In addition, four special prices of 500 euros each are awarded. In addition, the state of Carinthia praises a life's price of 3,000 euros, while the city of Klagenfurt creates a further life of 1,500 euros, such as 5min.

The competition jury consists of well -known personalities. Günter Schmidauer acts as chairman, while the members Josef Winkler, Ilse Gerhardt and Katharina Herzmansky belong to the jury. A special enrichment is the Slovenian poet Cvetka Lipuš, who has been added to the committee as the new juror. However, initiator Harald Raffer has no voting rights.

Award ceremony

The ceremonial award ceremony will take place on December 4, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the Klagenfurt town house. At this event, the winners will read from their works, admission is free. Every year, around 200 participants face the challenge of capturing moods, feelings and thoughts through their poems and thus promoting the variety of poetry.

In addition to the poetry award, further prices for new literature in Carinthia are also advertised as part of the KSV literature competition.
