Campaign for positive images of old age: Active together in retirement!
In Austria, a fifth of the population is older than 65 years. There is often a clear need for social participation for these people, who are often perceived as either active and experienced in life or as in need of care. But what do you think about your age? This question is the focus of a recent information afternoon organized by the “Healthy Community” in Hermagor.
“Let’s set out on the path to more serenity, joy of life and confidence in old age,” is the call fromHanni Gratzer and Mag. Margit Wieser, who led the event. They encouraged participants to rethink some myths about aging and explore the possibilities of active, healthy aging.
Active seniors in focus
Gratzer emphasized the importance of creative expression and personal contributions in old age. “We want to appeal to people who want more in life, who want to help shape things and be active,” she explained, adding that the monthly senior meetings are important, but not enough for those who are willing to do more and do more.
The main aim of the event was to encourage people to share their skills and abilities in small groups. The participants develop creative projects that are not only fun, but can also make a positive overall contribution. It is important to give young and old the opportunity to learn from each other and develop solutions together.
- Das nächste Treffen findet am 15. Jänner 2025 um 14 Uhr im Rathaus in Hermagor statt.
The seniors present were enthusiastic about the ideas and openness conveyed at this event. They valued the opportunity to be actively involved in shaping their old age and to talk about their own needs and wishes. It is clear that a positive image of old age is not only a question of one's health, but also of one's inner attitude and the activities one strives for in old age.
As the participants further emphasized, an open dialogue about alternative options and lifestyle options in old age can help reduce stigma and promote a positive self-image. More information about future events and active involvement are available at gailtal-journal.at to find.
