SV M&R Feldkirchen: On the way back to the Carinthian league

The football world in Feldkirchen is experiencing a remarkable change. SV M&R Feldkirchen, a traditional club with a long history, has heralded its return to the top of the Lower League East just a few months after a serious setback, relegation from the Carinthian League. Martin Tamegger, the club's chairman, describes the process as an impressive comeback, comparable to a “phoenix rising from the ashes”.

In December 2023, the club faced the risk of having to stop playing completely. However, a few enthusiasts, including Tamegger, former player Christian Schilcher and coach Robert Pozewaunig, have taken the initiative. At a general meeting in January 2024, they presented their visions for the future and were elected to the new management team.

Club goals and sporting stability

With the aim of ensuring sporting stability and economic improvement, the new managers began to get the club back on its feet. “The harmony within the team is noticeable non-stop,” explains Tamegger. The original goal for the 2024/25 season was to achieve a place between positions three and five in the table.

The efforts have borne initial fruit. The club is currently in first place in the East Lower League. Key factors for this success are the talented newcomers such as Kevin Vaschauner, who has scored an impressive 23 goals this season, and Michael Groinig, who is also showing strong performances.

The fan base is enthusiastic and celebrates the return of success. On average, over 450 visitors flock to the home games, which further reinforces the club's positive atmosphere.

Challenges and future prospects

Despite the successes, those responsible face challenges. Playmaker Besic Bajio is out due to a serious injury and will be out of the team for some time. However, Tamegger states that several promising candidates are being considered for the important midfielder position.

The club management is optimistic and sees a chance for direct promotion to the Carinthian league this season, even if Tamegger makes it clear that the long-term goals are set for three years.

In addition, the Feldkirchen Juniors are making a name for themselves in the UL Challenge as they are currently in first place and could produce numerous talents for the fighting team.

The future of SV M&R Feldkirchen looks bright, and hopes of an early return to the top leagues seem to be within reach. The basis for this has been laid and those responsible are determined to lead the club back to its former strength.
