Franconia in the spotlight: Rothenburg and Bayreuth among the top sights
Tourism is particularly important in Germany, and the Federal Statistical Office has just published the impressive figures: Over 487 million overnight stays were registered in accommodation establishments last year. This even exceeds the figures for Italy, which is traditionally considered a well-known holiday destination. Amid these attractive travel statistics, two Franconian attractions have made it into the top ten of the most popular attractions in the country.
The survey by the German National Tourist Board, in which more than 25,000 holidaymakers worldwide took part, shows what visitors particularly value about Germany. Among the tens of thousands of attractions, two Franconian towns made it onto the list: in fifth place is the charming town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in West Central Franconia, while the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth takes eighth place.
