Alarm in the Grüneburg Park: Color attack on Jewish activists!

The “System Change Camp” organized by climate activists is currently taking place in Frankfurt's Grüneburgpark, which aims at a discussion about climate and social justice. However, there were violent incidents during the camp, which is supposed to continue until Sunday evening. On Friday, August 23, 2025, Jewish activists were attacked and insulted with red color when hanging up posters who are reminiscent of the hostess delivers from Hamas. The police then initiated investigations and shows increased presence in the park to prevent further incidents. The Jewish municipality of Frankfurt has raised the alarm and speaks of "agitation against Israel", which fell in the context of the camp. The fact that the magistrate and the mayor have so far been silent has been sharply criticized.

The camp attracts numerous participants, with an estimated number of around 1,000 to the start, whereby up to 1,500 are expected on the weekend. The participants consist of different groups, including environmentalists, capitalism critics and members of Antifa, whereby some are even classified as left -wing extremist. Critics, including the FDP, CDU and the anti -Semitism representative Uwe Becker, express the accusation that the Camp shows anti -Israel tendencies. In particular, the Jewish community spoke out against the approval of the camp because it has concerns about dealing with pro-Israeli symbols that were demolished by camp participants. 60 complaints about different aspects of the camp have already been submitted, especially about the barriers of playgrounds.

Criticism of the climate movement

Within the climate movement, there are concerns about the use of the term “intifada” in the context of activism for climate protection. The youth organization "Revolution" plans a climate protest under the motto "From Hamburg to Gaza-Klimaintifada" and has faced criticism that such statements are interpreted as anti-Semitic. Speakers of well -known initiatives such as the end of terrain and Fridays for Future Hamburg have already distanced themselves from the organization, and similar distances have been carried out in the past from other German climate movements. In 2021, the umbrella organization of Fridays for Future expressed that it calls for the fall of the system, which is responsible for the climate crisis, which was also perceived as anti-Israel.

The discussion about anti -Semitism in relation to the climate movement is controversial from various sides. While some observers emphasize that the Middle East conflict and the climate crisis are difficult to separate, others see the risk that both the climate debate and the Jewish identity could suffer from general suspicion. Anti -Semitism officers and journalists have asked for increased analysis of the connections between climate movement and anti -Semitism in order to counteract misunderstandings and prejudices.

While the workshops and lectures of the "System Change Camp" are continued, it remains to be seen how the continuing conflicts and public reactions will influence the discussion about the future orientation of the climate movement and their handling of anti -Semitic accusations. The police are planning to maintain the increased security measures until the planned dismantling of the camp on Tuesday.
