EU strengthens digital sovereignty: Austrians on the Cispe board!

Kärnten, Österreich - The cloud infrastructure service providers in Europe are facing significant upheaval! The Association CiSpe (Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers in Europe) has revised its leadership structure to strengthen Europe's digital sovereignty. This was announced on October 18, 2024 at the General Assembly in Lisbon. What is new is that at least 75 % of the board members have to represent companies that are based in Europe, including the United Kingdom. This drastic increase of 50 % shows that CiSpe is determined to put the interests of European providers in the foreground, as ciSpe.cloud reported.

Austrian leadership in Europe

The most exciting developments is the choice of Alexander Windbichler, CEO of Anevia, as the first Austrian on the Cispe board. With this choice, not only his expertise is recognized in sustainable and sovereign cloud solutions, but also a strong signal for the competition and independence of global tech giants. Windbichler said positively about his new role: "I am pleased to be part of the Cispue board from now on," and emphasized the need for a strong European cloud as a counterweight to the dominant international companies, such as Klick-kaernten.at reported.

With its new strategy,

ciSpe relies on multi-cloud and open source approaches to promote data sovereignty and to accelerate the transition to climate-neutral data centers. This is underlined by a clear obligation to achieve the cloud neutrality of the cloud by 2030, which benefits both the cloud providers and their customers. Windbichler and his colleagues see the necessary transformation to convert the weaknesses in the European cloud sector into new strengths. CiSpe is ready to raise the voice of the European cloud providers to legislators and supervisory authorities!
