Miracle of survival after plane crash in Kazakhstan: 29 people saved!
In a shocking incident, an Azerbaijani passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines has crashed in Kazakhstan, exploding into a devastating fireball during an emergency landing. There were 67 people on board in the accident near the city of Aktau on the Caspian Sea, including two children, the Tengrinews news agency reported. So far, 29 survivors have been identified, including an 11-year-old girl who says she lives in Germany but does not know her nationality. Kazakh authorities confirmed the deaths of at least four people, including the pilots, and the search for additional victims is ongoing. Among the survivors, 14 have Azerbaijani, 10 Russian and two Kyrgyz nationality.
Cause of crash and dramatic footage
Initial analyzes point to a possible bird strike as the cause of the crash, according to information from Azerbaijan Airlines. This reported that the Embraer 190 aircraft got into a flock of birds during the flight and then attempted an emergency landing near Aktau. Although modern aircraft are designed to withstand collisions with birds, in severe cases such accidents can still have fatal consequences, as in this case. Dramatic videos that circulated on social networks after the incident show the plane at low altitude, shortly before impact, and the explosive ignition of the aircraft.
The aircraft calibrated extreme altitude and speed problems before landing, prompting the crew to declare an emergency. According to aviation safety platform Aviation Safety Network, the accident was the first major one this year, with 2024 considered one of the safest years in aviation so far. Previously, only ten crashes with a total of 88 fatalities were recorded. These figures are well below the five-year average, making the fatal incident all the more shocking.
More information about the survivors and the circumstances of the accident is expected as Kazakh authorities continue to search for additional victims.
