Dispute over sports grounds: FC Gießen sees provocation through tuba!

A violent conflict is bubbling in Pohlheim! FC Gießen sees red, while FC Turabdin (Tuba) cheers Babylon. On Thursday, the Pohlheim parliament decided to grant Tuba its own sports home on the controversial area on the Neumühle in Watzenborn-Steinberg. This is a historical step for Tuba, but those responsible for FC Gießen find this a clear provocation!

The tensions between the two clubs have been noticeable for weeks. Peter Alexander, a volunteer department of the city of Pohlheim, and the representatives of FC Gießen, Michèl Magel and Volker Tunkel, have a verbal exchange of blows. FC Gießen insists on its sole use of the square, while Alexander vehemently defends the decision for the new sports home. "Conversations do not make sense," says Gießen's clear announcement if the city wants to change the lease conditions. However, it has been decided for two years that Tuba can also play on the site!

The background of the dispute

The conflict is about lease conditions. While the city claims that FC Gießen is only entitled to the sports home and a small open space, the association vehemently contradicts. Tunkel emphasizes that they will do everything they can to keep their lease area by 2054. But the doubts about the existence of an opposing expertise stir up further tensions. "We don't want to pour oil into the fire," explains Tunkel, while Alexander assumes a "delay and preventive strategy".

The decision for the sports home could further fuel the conflict. Reiner Leidich from the CDU parliamentary group fears that the two football clubs will go to each other. For Tuba, however, this decision is a milestone that could finally offer you a home in Pohlheim. In the past, the association has hoped in vain for a modernized sports facility. "If Tuba has been treated differently for 20 years, it is discrimination," emphasizes Matthias Kücükkaplan from the SPD parliamentary group and demands a fair solution for all sports clubs in the region.
