Sustainability in the healthcare system: Lower Saxony shows how it's done!

In 2024, the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) drove forward decisive developments in the healthcare system in Lower Saxony. A specialist conference took place in February at which experts discussed sustainable approaches in the health sector. With successful examples from practice, they illustrated how the healthcare sector can be made more environmentally friendly, reports the TK. The conference not only served to exchange experiences, but also focused on the current challenges and solutions in the field of healthcare.

Innovations and commitment

Equally notable was the HealthHack held in April 2024, where creative solutions for the German healthcare system were developed. The competition encouraged innovative ideas and provided participants with mentoring and networking opportunities. The TK actively supported the teams and thus set an example for future-oriented healthcare. The next round of the HealthHack will take place on March 28th and 29th, 2025, under the motto "Code. Create. Care." , as highlighted on TK's website.

The TK also focused on preventative measures, such as the HPV Action Week, which took place from June 10th to 14th. Students were informed about the risks of human papilloma viruses, which cause many cancers every year. This initiative shows how important education and vaccinations are in order to effectively minimize health risks.

In addition, TK was involved in the IdeasExpo in Hanover, a large youth event. The topic of cyberbullying was discussed together with prominent guests, with the TK bringing the problem closer to the young people with interactive activities. A highlight was the appearance of the TK board chairman Dr. Jens Baas, who encouraged the young generation to go their own way.

For strong commitment and innovative approaches in healthcare, the TK autumn reception was organized, where the progress in Denmark in the field of digitalization was presented. The exchange between politicians and health organizations illustrates the relevance of cooperation to improve health care in Lower Saxony.
