Horrible discovery: 44 dead gray seals off Rügen – fishermen under suspicion!

A shocking seal death rocks the Baltic Sea! 44 gray seals have already been washed up dead on the beaches of Rügen - some of them with foam in their lungs. The cause? A cruel suspicion: a fisherman could be responsible for this tragic death!

These majestic gray seals, Germany's largest predators, are true master hunters. They dive up to 140 meters deep to catch fish, crabs and mussels. But their lungs are like ours - they need to come to the surface regularly to breathe. They can hold their breath for half an hour, but that could be their undoing now.

Where is the disaster happening?

The lifeless bodies have been discovered off Rügen and at Greifswalder Bodden since the beginning of October. Most of the carcasses were found on the southeastern coastal section of Rügen, especially between Thiessow, Lobbe and Groß Zicker. Three more dead seals were also spotted on the Mönchgut peninsula. The situation is alarming and raises questions: What is happening in our waters? Why do these impressive animals die so tragically?
