Medal of Honor for 99 firefighter heroes: Thanks for loyal service!

In a glittering ceremony in the Zieten barracks of Logistics Battalion 172 in Beelitz on Friday, November 8th, 99 brave firefighters were honored for their tireless efforts. District Administrator Marko Köhler presented the medal for loyal service in fire and disaster control, recognizing the extraordinary achievements of these heroes who are there in difficult times.

“The medal is an expression of deeply felt appreciation,” emphasized Köhler, highlighting the enormous demands placed on the firefighters. "Your voluntary work is of the greatest value to our society. You are there when others need help - be it during fires, natural disasters or traffic accidents." These words reflect the respect the entire community has for the firefighters' unwavering commitment.

A thank you to the heroes of everyday life

District fire chief Jens Heinze joined in the words of thanks and recalled the countless hours of voluntary work that these men and women have done. “Commitment, a sense of duty and expertise are by no means a given,” says Heinze. “Thank you for your determination, your skills and your passion, which you bring to your diverse tasks.” The event attracted around 70 comrades from the volunteer fire departments from the Potsdam-Mittelmark district who were proud of their awards.

The Medal for Loyal Service is awarded to firefighters who have faithfully discharged their duties over many years. It can be awarded in different levels for 10 to 80 years of service. This honor is not only a sign of recognition, but also an incentive for the firefighters to continue to do their best and to keep the community safe.
