E-mobility in the upswing: 92 % of the drivers remain electrically!

Electromobility always shows clearer signs of irreversible change. A new international survey carried out by the Global EV Drivers Alliance (GEVA) provides interesting insights into the opinions of electric vehicles. As part of the Global EV Driver Survey 2025, 23,000 e-drivers from 18 countries were interviewed. An outstanding result: 92 percent of the respondents stated that they again opted for an emission -free vehicle, while only 1 percent wanted to return to the combustion warehouse. This survey is intended to make the needs, wishes and challenges of e-mobilist more clearly and help to accelerate the transformation to sustainable mobility ( econews ).

The drivers of electric cars often argue their decision with partly environmentally conscious, partly economic aspects. So 45 percent of the respondents named the low operating costs as the decisive reason for their switch to electric drive, followed by 40 percent, which cited climate protection. Another motivation was to improve air quality, which was important 32 percent of the survey participants. On the other hand, 40 percent report that they do not see any significant disadvantages of electromobility. Nevertheless, 23 percent express concerns about the low availability of quick charging stations, while 19 percent find the long loading times annoying ( World ).

Market development and challenges

In Germany, the proportion of electric cars continuously increases in the new registrations, even if growth in 2024 has been slower than in previous years. The inventory of electric cars rose to around 1.7 million in early 2024, which is a significant increase compared to 2020. However, this development was braked by the elimination of government funding, such as the environmental bonus. According to current data, the proportion of electric vehicles on the car stock is now over three percent ( Statista ).

Another aspect of e-mobility is the infrastructure for the shop. At the end of January 2025 there were over 160,800 charging points in Germany, and the average charging power was around 37.4 kilowatts. This increase is crucial to cover the increasing need for market players and reduce the obstacles when switching. High charging capacity has particularly high-class electric car models.

Environmental aspects of electromobility

A frequently discussed topic is the environmental balance of electric vehicles. While you do not cause emissions when driving, greenhouse gas emissions in the production of electric cars are higher than with conventional vehicles, especially due to battery agencies. This contributes over 80 percent to the emissions of an e-car drive train. Nevertheless, electric cars benefit massively from the increasing use of renewable energies, which in 2023 already made up 54 percent of the electricity produced in Germany.

Developments in e-mobility are in line with the political requirements of the EU, which would like to ban new petrol and diesel cars from 2035. This strategy aims to force the transformation towards fully battered vehicles. The market conditions and the setting of consumers indicate that the sales figures for e-cars could increase again in the coming years, based on a cheaper offer and binding requirements ( econews ).
