On January 9, 2025, a traffic accident occurred on Landstrasse 61 in the Euskirchen district. At 4:02 p.m., on the corner of “Am Katzenstein” in Mechernich-Katzvey, a small school bus and a Deutsche Bahn rail replacement bus collided.
Around 70 passengers were affected in the incident, with eight people, including three children aged 8, 11 and 14, suffering minor injuries. Several of the injured received treatment in nearby hospitals for their safety.
