Vatikanstadt, Italien - Vatican city, 14.01.2025 (Cape) - Pope Francis is optimistic about the future of the Catholic Church and names decisive changes. In his new autobiography "Hope", which has been released worldwide, he expresses that the church will always have a place in the future. Francis makes it clear that he is only "a step" in the long history of the papacy and calls for a realignment towards more service and unity. In an urgent speech in St. Peter's Basilica, the Pope called on the Catholics to actively and courageously work for the future of the Church. He warned of the risk of self -relevantness and standstill, as he observed in many countries. "A 'sitting church' that banishes to the edges of reality goes into blindness and fails to recognize the basic challenges in pastoral care," he emphasizes. Francis encouraged the believers to raise the voice of the needy and take care of the marginalized instead of remaining in an attitude of resignation.
creativity and reform required
According to Pope Francis, the first reform must be that of attitude, followed by necessary structural adjustments. "The churches, especially in some countries, are sometimes too solidified in their programs," he said. The final phase of the World Synod Reform project, which has existed since 2021, produced a final document that should set the direction for the future church. He appeals to all believers to remove the "cape of the despondence" and to actively participate in the spread of the gospel. "Let's put our hands dirty to serve the world," Came Francis and asked each other to master the urgency of the evangelization, as already reported.
