Worldwide collection: Priest training in need - help!
Worldwide collection: Priest training in need - help!
In the Catholic Church, an important call for donations for the support of the seminars in the world's low -income regions is started. Over 109,000 seminarians are currently preparing for their priestly service, with 80,000 of them living and studying in the poorest dioceses. Trained priests are of essential importance in these regions, since they are not only spiritual leaders, but also act as the first point of contact for social cohesion in the communities. The papal mission in Austria (Missio Austria) indicate that many theological institutes and priest seminars urgently need financial support in order to enable the prospective priests to provide adequate training and accommodation, such as kathpress.at reported.
On January 6, a collection will be carried out in the Austrian parishes to promote this critical training. This collection is part of the so-called "Epiphany Collections" and secures the training position of many prospective priests in Africa, Asia and Latin America, where many local churches are unable to bear the training costs. Monsignor Dr. Leo-M. Maasburg, National Director of the Pontifical Missions', emphasizes the urgency of this support: "The worldwide Catholic Church needs well -trained priests to fulfill the Christian mandate." Currently, the resources in these regions are often not sufficient, which means that serious applicants have to be rejected because there is a lack of financial support and apprenticeships, such as kath.net not.
The goal of the priestly collection
The upcoming collection is not only regarded as financial aid, but also as an investment in the future of these companies. Well -trained priests can make a decisive contribution to stability and social peace in their countries, making them become the “salt of society”. Initiatives such as Missio's priesthood sponsorships also offer the opportunity to support individual seminarians directly. This support is particularly important for regions in which the number of priests in relation to the population is greatly reduced compared to Europe, which endangers future pastoral care. Missio Austria calls for all believers to take part in this important collection and thus contribute to strengthening the global church.
