Asia's 50 best restaurants 2025: Diversity of cities discovered
A restaurant in Bangkok has first place in the annual asia’s 50 best restaurants awards back. Gaggan, which was voted as the best restaurant in Asia in 2025, offers an avant-garde fine dining experience and serves progressive Indian cuisine with influences from all over the world.
Gaggan’s return to the throne
This is the first time that the kitchen chief's restaurant of the same name gained the award since the redesign of his restaurant concept and the move to a new location in 2019 after it was already successful in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Last year Gaggan took third place on the list.
"When we started as a restaurant, it was not about me, but about Asia. Everyone in this room is a winner. Today I am here on the podium, but that doesn't mean that one of us from Asia will not make it again next time," said Anand during the award ceremony on Tuesday evening in Seoul, South Korea.

cities with the most restaurants in the ranking
The list, which is part of the global brand "World’s 50 Best", was created by the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy. This consists of more than 300 restaurant critics, writers, chefs and restaurant owners who were selected through the restaurant scene in Asia due to their knowledge.
This year Bangkok and Tokyo have the most entries on the top 50 list and nine restaurants in the rankings. Nusara, under the direction of chef Thitid "Ton" Tassanakajohn, also made it under the top 10 and took sixth place. Hong Kong and Singapore each had seven entries.
The host city of Seoul, like Shanghai, was able to win four places in the 2025 Awards. This includes Eatanic Garden, a menu-free Fine dining concept that focuses on the ingredients with all five senses, and which took the 25th place, which is the highest new entry in the list.
global awareness of Korean cuisine
For local chefs and gourmets, the organization of the event in Seoul is a sign for the second time in a row that Korean cuisine deserves a place of global influence. "Because of this event in Korea, I was able to take part and exchange ideas with many chefs," said Kim Jae-Ho, chef at Andaz Seoul Gangnam, to CNN Travel during the event. "Korean culture is becoming increasingly popular abroad. I will work to become a chef who can help to further spread the Korean eating culture abroad."
It is also the second year in which Bangkok brings the title "Asia's best chef". Chudaree "Tam" Debhakam, which was awarded this year, is known for its earth -bound cuisine, which highlights the beauty of the Thai products. Your Baan Tepa restaurant was chosen for 44th place on the list this year. Last year's winner, Pichaya "Pam" Soontornyanakij, and her Thai-Chinese restaurant Potong took 13th place this year.
