Magic lights: altar boys transform the church into a starry sky!
In the small community of Ursensollen, the church shines in magical light: the altar boys from the parish of St. Vitus have transformed the high rooms into a sparkling paradise with their unique “Advent of 1000 Stars” campaign. The starry sky, decorated with 1000 self-made stars, offers visitors a dreamlike atmosphere that invites you to marvel and pause. This creative idea, which came to life during the Corona pandemic, was initiated by senior altar boy Theresa Popp, who quickly secured the support of Pastor Johannes Arweck. “We made all 1,000 stars in just two group hours,” Theresa explains proudly. Each star bears the name of an altar boy, which makes the campaign all the more personal Central Bavarian reported.
Contemplative devotion under the starry sky
On December 26th, Boxing Day, the altar boys invite you to “Devotion under the Starry Sky”, which features soulful texts and touching music. This event aims to offer visitors moments of silence and reflection, an opportunity to experience the contemplative Christmas season in a pleasant atmosphere. In addition to the creative design of the service, the altar server service contributes to deepening the community within the parish. As the Parish of Harrling-Zandt-Altrandsberg explains, the social component plays an equally important role today: the altar boys meet regularly, take part in leisure activities and thus promote cohesion and community in the church.
Thanks to these initiatives, the service of altar servers is perceived not only as a liturgical task, but as an important part of community life within the church. While the church in Ursensollen is enchanted by the twinkling stars, it becomes clear how complex the service of altar boys is today, which goes far beyond the church service.
