Water and wastewater are becoming more expensive: Mörfelden-Walldorf sounds the alarm!
In the cities of Mörfelden-Walldorf and Neuhausen there will be significant increases in fees for water and wastewater next year. Mörfelden-Walldorf will adjust its fees from January 1, 2025, largely due to the need to invest in modernizing water and wastewater infrastructure. The price of drinking water will increase by 20% from 1.89 euros to 2.28 euros per cubic meter, while the wastewater fee will increase by 37% to 4.11 euros per cubic meter. These measures are necessary to ensure the legally required cost recovery and to remain stable until 2028, as BYC News reported.
In Neuhausen the water price will be raised from 2.50 euros to 2.75 euros per cubic meter. The fee increase, approved unanimously by the council, comes due to increased costs and a projected decline in water sales. An average four-person household will pay around 52.40 euros more for water and wastewater next year. What is surprising, however, is that the disposal of rainwater falls by 16 cents to 1.19 euros per cubic meter, while the fee for dirty water increases by 16 cents to 2.97 euros per cubic meter Esslinger newspaper determines.
These adjustments and fee increases in both cities reflect much-needed investments in infrastructure and aim for a more sustainable water supply. In Mörfelden-Walldorf, the sewage treatment plant is also being expanded to set new standards for water protection, while Neuhausen had the fee calculations checked by an external company in order to create more transparency. The efforts to ensure a future-proof and sustainable water management are the focus of both municipalities.
