Experimental attempt in Sulzbach-Rosenberg: Woman looks through scrupelless fraudsters!

On January 8, 2025, a fraudulent caller reported to a 61-year-old woman from Sulzbach-Rosenberg. The perpetrator pretended to be an employee of the 'fraud department' of her house bank and informed the woman about an alleged attempt to transfer in the amount of almost 10,000 euros, specifically 9,800 euros. During the phone call, the fraudster asked the woman to log into her online banking to verify the transaction.

In the following, the woman was made by the caller to tell a real transaction number (TAN). After the phone call, however, the 61-year-old took suspicion and immediately contacted her bank. This confirmed the attempted fraud and was able to stop the transfer in good time.

Investigations and warnings of the police

The police have initiated investigations into suspected computer fraud, spying on data and data change. The first indications indicate that the perpetrator may have acted from abroad. The police urgently warn against revealing bank details on the phone. Serious bank employees never ask about TANs or passwords. If in doubt, consumers should put on and call directly via the official contact details of their bank. Suspicious calls must always be reported.

Thanks to the rapid reaction of the woman concerned, considerable financial loss could be prevented, as Oberpfalz24.de reported. Interested readers can also find further preventive information on the website of the Sparkasse .
