Wienerwald photo competition: Discover the hidden natural treasures!

The Biosphere Park Wienerwald invites you to participate in his photo competition "Natural treasures in detail" until July 27, 2025. The competition, which is organized as part of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO biosphere park, aims to make the beauty and diversity of nature visible in detailed shots. With over 350 photos submitted, which show aspects of biodiversity and habitats in the Vienna Forest, the specialist jury has already selected ten pictures that are transferred to the final vote.

The vote for the favorite photo takes place on the website www.bpww.at/vublikum voting, whereby the participants have the opportunity to take part in a raffle for five goodie bags. The best photos are not only awarded, but also produced as freecards that are distributed in the region. The prices include a photo workshop with the renowned nature photographer Norbert Novak as well as vouchers for the Hotel Restaurant Höldrichsmühle and a family map for the Museum Lower Austria.

The photo competition takes place on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the biosphere park, which was awarded by UNESCO in 2005. The Wienerwald is unique because it is the only biosphere area in Europe in the immediate vicinity of a city of millions, Vienna. It comprises an area of 105,000 hectares and extends over 51 municipalities in Lower Austria and seven Viennese municipalities. Around 885,000 people live in this diverse natural area.

The competition not only aims to promote artistic forms of expression, but is also part of a larger project to raise awareness of biodiversity, climate protection and sustainability. The participants are encouraged to treat nature with respect and to use the official hiking trails of the biosphere park.

The specialist jury is made up of experienced photographers, including Norbert Novak and Sebastian Freiler, who rate the submitted works. There are attractive prices for the winners: In addition to the photo workshop already mentioned, an annual ticket for the Schönbrunn Tiergarten and other attractive material prizes are also available. These prices should offer an additional incentive to capture and present the beauty of the Wienerwald through inspiring photography.
