Vorarlberg talents shine at the international badminton tournament!

Sporthallenstraße 2, 6922 Wolfurt, Österreich - On June 10, 2025, the international badminton youth tournament "Victor Hofsteig Youth International" took place in Wolfurt and Lauterach. Organized by UBSC Wolfurt, the event attracted around 200 players from different countries, including Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, the Czech Republic and Denmark. The event was very popular, which was also reflected in the positive mood among the participants.

The Vorarlberg young talent Lisa Moosbrugger, which performed impressive at the age of 13, is particularly noteworthy. She secured the title in the U15 ladies by defeating the Swiss player Kiara Var with 21:17 and 21:14 in the final. In addition, Moosbrugger won the title in the Mixed double together with Moritz Bürger from 1. BCV Fußach. After a lost sentence against the German duo Matti Hintze and Judith Binder, they turned the sheet and won with 18:21, 21:11 and 21:11. Lisa remained unbeaten during the entire tournament.

Paul Gerard and Alexander Hofbauer were able to secure the bronze medal in the youth doubles U11. Lukas Schuster achieved a second place in the men's singles U15, and the double Emily Sun and Pia Zhan achieved third place in the U13.

The event took place in the Wolfurt Hofsteighalle and in the Lauterach middle school and offered numerous playing fields: seven in Halle A, which were reserved for the U15 category, and six in Hall B, which were used for the age groups U11 and U13. Several disciplines were offered, including boy singles, girls' singles, young doubles, girls doubles and mixed double. Each participant had the opportunity to compete in up to three disciplines.

According to the official provisions of the ÖBV game regulations, the competitions in the knockout system were held, with boys and girls' singles being played in groups. The event had a maximum limit of 250, and the positive feedback shows that the organizers did a good job. The next appointment for the tournament is already scheduled for June 5 to 7, 2026.

About a third of these players are female, while 31 % represent children and adolescents under the age of 22. The badminton density in Vorarlberg is particularly high, with one player per 400 inhabitants. This shows that the region is a center of badminton sports. One goal of the ÖBV is to increase badminton sports in Austria by 2025, which would mean more than 5,000 players.
