Ukraine receives 1,200 soldiers' corpses: a bloody price for peace
Kiew, Ukraine - Ukraine received the remains of more than 1,200 soldiers who lost their lives in the war against Russia on Friday. This was announced by the coordination committee for the prisoner exchange in Kyiv via Telegram. The return of the corpse is part of the agreements that were made at the latest round of negotiations in Istanbul at the beginning of the month between Ukraine and Russia. On Wednesday, Russia had already handed over the corpses of over 1,200 Ukrainian soldiers, which achieved the families concerned in a depressing way.
The entire exchange of the corpse is considered part of a more comprehensive negotiation process, within the framework of which there was also a greatest prisoner exchange since the conflict began. In this context, 1,000 prisoners were released from both sides, which nourishes hope for future negotiations. According to the Tagesspiegel, the deliveries were made with emotional scenes of the returnees, which have often been in captivity since 2022.
a narrow ray of hope in the middle of violence
Despite the progress of prisoner exchange, the situation in Ukraine remains tense. At the same time, Russia carried out devastating air strikes with the exchange that have been the worst attacks in a long time. The attacks primarily affected several regions of Ukraine, including Schytomyr and Kyiv. According to reports, at least twelve people died, including children, and dozens were injured. The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj criticized the attacks sharply and asked the West to put greater pressure on Russia.
In the regions concerned, many injuries were also registered in addition to the dead. In Mykolajiw, for example, a five -storey house was hit by a drone attack. Russia justified the air strikes with reports on Ukrainian drone attacks in the Russian area, which underlines the complexity of the military discussion.
little hope of a ceasefire
Although the prisoner exchange is a modest ray of hope in the ongoing conflict, the view of a ceasefire remains uncertain. [Main-Spitze] (https://www.main-spitze.de/politik/politik-weltwänderbaugaBer-keine-kein-kein-waffen- 4685126) reported that no progress in the negotiations on an ceasefire could be made. President Selenskyj was ready for diplomatic solutions, but decidedly rejected a withdrawal from controversial areas. The conflict in Ukraine continues to demand a high tribute to human life and leads to a constant humanitarian crisis.
The international reactions and stronger sanctions against Russia could be crucial for the further development of the conflict. The concern about the ongoing attacks and the fate of the fallen soldiers remains high on both Ukrainian and international level.
