Trump urges peace: Security guarantees for Ukraine in focus!

In a current turn in the Ukraine conflict, Russia has made significant concessions in relation to security guarantees for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Report from the Small newspaper According to President Vladimir Putin, President Vladimir Putin has expressed clear demands that should serve as a prerequisite for an end to the enemy. Among other things, Russia calls for the complete waiver of Ukraine to the eastern Donbass region and a neutrality of Ukraine, which excludes NATO membership.

In a meeting with European heads of state, US President Donald Trump commented on these developments and announced that they want to decide on possible sanctions against Russia in individual cases. His vice president named additional tariffs of 25 percent to Indian goods, which could be introduced to the purchase of Russian oil in response to the purchase of Russian oil. Despite these measures, it is assumed that new sanctions will not move Russia to a ceasefire.

Security guarantees in focus

At the summit in Washington, how MDR reports, the President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, described the upcoming security guarantees as essential for a possible peace in the region. Trump has also agreed to offer Ukraine support if a peace agreement should be achieved. However, there are also controversial points, such as whether a ceasefire must be considered a prerequisite for peace negotiations.

In return, Russia brought an end to the fights and a possible return of civilians as a requirement for further negotiations and offers the exchange of 31 civilians. These developments follow a number of Russian attacks in Ukraine, which took place before the summit and led to several victims.

Challenges in the implementation of peace plans

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrow outlined the ideas about security guarantees, which are supposed to work out from the constant members of the UN Security Council, including the USA and China. Other countries such as Germany and Turkey could also act as guarantee powers. These proposals have led to a debate within Germany, since it remains unclear to what extent the Bundeswehr can contribute to the security of Ukraine, how ZDF reported.

Negotiations on security guarantees are heavily burdened by the continuous Russian aggression, such as a drone attack on Charkiw, and the complexity of the geopolitical situation. Trump has already ruled out that the Crimea will be returned to Ukraine, and the question of NATO membership of Ukraine remains controversial.

In view of these developments, it remains to be seen how geopolitical tensions will develop in the coming weeks and whether the dialogue between the conflict partners leads to a de -escalating solution.
