On August 31, 2025, the 44th edition of the Ötztal cycling marathon in Sölden, Imst district, Tyrol, took place. With a total of 4,000 participants from 40 nations, the event was a real highlight for cycling enthusiasts. The distance of 227 kilometers with 5,500 meters of altitude was an enormous challenge and attracted both experienced cyclists and amateurs who were ready to face the demanding fit Kühtai, Brenner Pass, Jaufenpass and Timmelsjoch. The event was praised for its perfect organization and the impressive mountain backdrop.
Daniel Federspiel from Imst secured the victory this year and was followed by Jonas Holzknecht from Längenfeld, who took second place. Governor Anton Mattle (ÖVP) congratulated the participants and praised the event as an important event for the region. The deputy governor Philip Wohlgemuth (SPÖ) also described the Ötztal cycling marathon as a figurehead for Tyrol.
High demand and record registrations
A record of registrations was recorded in January 2025. With 25,198, the Ötztal cycling marathon enjoyed inquiries at a historical high, which is a significant increase compared to the 22,000 registrations in the previous year. Only about 4,000 of the cyclists: Inside, a coveted start ticket for the race, which was raffled off in February 2025. The majority of the registrations came from Germany, with participants from 50 countries being represented.
In the previous year, 4,226 cyclists competed: inside from 36 nations, including 341 women and 3,885 men. Dominic Kuen, the OK chief of the cycling marathon, emphasized the unbroken legend of the event and the constant innovations that aimed to offer the participants an even better experience. In addition to the numerous inquiries, cooperation with Specialized was also announced as the new main sponsor of the event, which indicates the growing meaning and the influence of the Ötztal cycling marathon.
