Haydn's masterpiece The Creation - concert experience in Gleisdorf and Graz

On November 3rd, 2024, a very special musical event will take place in the Gleisdorf parish church. At 6 p.m., the chorforum.gleisdorf will perform the well-known oratorio “The Creation” by Joseph Haydn under the direction of Franz Jochum. This is done in close collaboration with the Graz University of Art, whose students form the instrumental ensemble.

The theme of the performance will be the biblical story of creation. This ranges from initial chaos to the rising of the sun to the creation of living beings and people in the form of Adam and Eve. A total of 130 participants, including talented vocal soloists, ensure an impressive sound. The soloists are all well-known: soprano Lisa-Marie Lebitschnig, tenor Robert Bartneck and bassist Lovro Kotnik. Oliver Bode will also be heard in the role of an archangel. The performance will take place in a setting that is both musically and visually impressive.

Special features of the performance

The musical direction will be under the responsibility of two conductors: Stjepan Molnar and Veronika Karner, both of whom work as experienced choir conductors in the Graz area. Karner, who, among other things, is the director of the “Grazer Sommerchor”, will also lead the choir during the performance. Some parts of the oratorio will also be conducted by Stjepan Molnar, who is known as an organist and choir director in the Graz St. Peter parish, as a completion of his own master's training in church music.

After the performance in Gleisdorf, the oratorio will also be performed in the Mariahilfer Church in Graz on November 10, 2024 at 8 p.m. Such collaborations between choirs and universities are particularly valuable in promoting the cultural life of the region. They not only offer those involved an excellent platform for musical development, but also an unforgettable experience for the audience.
