Red umbrella in Graz: KPÖ sets signs against inflation and living crisis
On Saturday, an impressive sea of red umbrellas filled the streets of Graz when the KPÖ (Communist Party of Austria) held its final rally. This event was a last powerful attempt to draw attention to the central issues of the election campaign: the persistent inflation and the question of affordable living.
Under the radiant sunshine, the KPÖ management members marched together with numerous supporters from the Graz Opera to the Freedomplace. Even if the weather was inviting, the red umbrellas that all participants had with them remained a strong symbol in the air. "We don't leave anyone in the rain," emphasized the KPÖ top candidate Claudia Klimt-Weithaler. The message was clear: the party would like to span a protective shield for those people who suffer from financial burdens such as high housing costs and rising rents.
Importance of housing costs
Klimt-Weithaler pointed out the challenges with which many Styrians are faced with. "People know that it is becoming increasingly difficult to cope with their rental and heating costs," she said. According to her, the increasing cost of living would have a significant impact on the quality of life, which underlines the responsibility of politics to find solutions for this. The KPÖ sees itself in the role of representing the voice of those who suffer from these grievances.
Another concern of the party leaders is that politics takes up more needs of the population. "The KPÖ doors are always open to people," emphasized Klimt-Weithaler. Citizens should be able to come to the politicians at any time with their concerns and problems in order to then represent them at a parliamentary level. As an example, she cited the increase in housing support, which was introduced after a long time without adaptation - a success of the KPÖ, as noted.
Mutual political actions
In a further part of the political events in Graz, the young Neos also made themselves felt by protesting in dinosaur costumes. They criticized the "Stone Age Policy" and demanded that the political responsible persons should avert outdated concepts. This creative protest underlined the variety of opinions and approaches that can be heard in the city.
While the campaigns are coming to an end, it remains to be seen which topics and concerns are still in focus by the political parties. In any case, the KPÖ does everything possible to bring up its core positions and convince its voters with powerful messages.
