Ski World Cup: ÖSV team disappointed, Kriechmayr gives everything!
The Alpine Ski World Cup in Saalbach-Hinterglemm has started with a bitter setback for the Austrian ski team. In the mixed team competition, the local quartet with Julia Scheib, Stephanie Brunner, Stefan Brennsteiner and Dominik Raschner already resigned against Sweden and ultimately took sixth place. Although the teams were on the top of the total time (2-2), the clock showed that Austria was beaten. Brunner emphasized: "I had to go against Sara All in. I'm sorry that I didn't get it to the finish." This weakness has been letting the Austrian athletes stand in Åre without team medal since the 2019 silver medal, like Salzburg24 reported.
In the middle of this disappointment, however, there are bright spots: Vincent Kriechmayr, who suffered an inner ligament strain in the right knee two and a half weeks ago in a fall in Wengen, will take part in the first departure training of the men on Wednesday. ÖSV Alpin boss Herbert Mandl announced his fit return after Kriechmayr had trained on Tuesday. "He is ready to tackle the training," said Mandl at the opening of the World Cup. This creates hope among the fans, despite the disappointing start of the team, that Kriechmayr might bring the turn, how crown reported.
The official opening of the Ski World Cup, carried out by FIS President Johan Eliasch, also promises exciting competitions in the coming days. For Austria, it is crucial to straighten the heads up again and to concentrate on the upcoming competitions. The pressure on the athletes increases because they have to prove their potential in the next races to win a medal. "We know that we have to accelerate," said Raschner after the competition. The next challenges will begin with the men's and gentlemen's departure training on Wednesday.
