context and relevance
The incident in the S-Bahn is considered against the background of increasing reports on violence against women. The results of a survey from 2021, which was commissioned by Eurostat and the Federal Chancellery, show that violence against women appears disproportionately. This data comes from the collection of "gender -specific violence against women and other forms of interpersonal violence" and include topics such as stalking, sexual harassment and violence in childhood, as on the website of [statistics Austria] (https://www.statistik.at/statistiken/bevoelkung-und--sociales/kriminalitaet-undicherheit/stewalt- against Frauen) reports.
This information underline urgency to act against gender -related violence. As part of its “Strategy for Equality for Gender 2020–2025”, the European Commission plans to have extensive measures to combat violence against women, including comprehensive and comparable data collection.
The scope of such attacks and the relevance of the topic show that social efforts are needed to help those affected and to account for potential perpetrators. The incident in Tyrol is unfortunately not an isolated case, and the social discourse remains urgently necessary.
The sensitivity to this topic can also be seen in the current reports, for example in the ORF Tirol, which provides information about similar incidents. It is to be hoped that more information and preventive measures will increase security for women on public transport.
