Raiffeisen helps Klagenfurt households: 20,000 euros for rent!

The Raiffeisen Landesbank Carinthia is actively involved in improving the living conditions of needy households. On June 10, 2025, it was announced that the bank will donate 20,000 euros to Caritas Carinthia. This money is specifically used to promote rent grants to support around 65 households in the Klagenfurt district and to counteract the constantly increasing housing costs. Especially single parents are very affected by the high costs and urgently need help.

Gert Spanz, CEO of Raiffeisen Landesbank, emphasizes the social responsibility of his institution. The donation is part of a broader commitment from the bank to strengthen the social infrastructure and to actively promote poverty. In addition to the rent grants, a further 20,000 euros flow into Caritas' learning cafes in Klagenfurt. These learning cafes offer free learning aid as well as healthy snacks and support from volunteers, which contributes to an open learning atmosphere.

Education as poverty prevention

Ernst Sandriesser, the director of Caritas, emphasizes the crucial role of education in poverty. Access to education is one of the most effective measures to combat poverty sustainably. This initiative is in line with the national approach to poverty prevention, as he is outlined in the national action plan "New opportunities for children in Germany". Poverding prevention is a common responsibility of municipalities, countries and the federal government.

The municipal poverty response aims to combat the causes of poverty, prevent new poverty and to alleviate the consequences of poverty. The aim is to overcome cross -generational poverty and respond to local problems. The cooperation between various actors is crucial to develop solutions and promote child -friendly infrastructure.

Cooperation to combat child poverty

As part of the country exchange for poverty, which began in June 2024, 14 countries took part in the first meeting. The exchange was arranged as regularly to develop the strategies to combat child poverty. At a specialist conference in November 2023, around 100 participants discussed in six workshops about municipal poverty and the need to develop community strategies and instruments.

In addition, a specialist day took place on October 1, 2024, in which mayors, district administrators came together. The focus here was on collecting best practice examples and creating child-friendly infrastructures. The discussion stretched to legal aspects, effectiveness and the networking on site.

Overall, the commitment of the Raiffeisen Landesbank Carinthia shows how important it is to assume social responsibility and to find sustainable solutions for a fairer society. The initiatives of Caritas and the political measures to prevent poverty are in the right direction to support people in difficult situations and to offer perspectives.
