Austria's football team conquers the World Cup qualifier with 4-0!

Graz, Österreich - On June 11, 2025, the Austrian national soccer team won 4-0 against San Marino in the World Cup qualification. This victory took place in Serravalle and consolidated the good starting position of the Austrians, who are unbeaten after two games and were able to reach the points of six points. After a previous victory against Romania (2-1) in Vienna, they now take second place in Group H, behind Bosnia-Herzegovina, which has won three games.

Team boss Ralf Rangnick had asked for a quick start before the game and his players impressively implement this requirement. After 15 minutes it was 3-0 for Austria, which made the spectators in the stadium celebrating. Marko Arnautovic opened the goal series in the third minute, followed by other goals by Michael Gregoritsch (15th minute) and Christoph Baumgartner (27th minute). Even if Arnautovic awarded a penalty in the 85th minute, the first half was a clear affair for the home team, which was satisfied with Rangnick. "We quickly wanted to create clear conditions," said Marcel Sabitzer, who emphasized the dominance of the first half.

debuts and change

In the second half there were several personnel changes. Mathias Honsak made his debut on an international stage, while Thierno Ballo and Tobias Lawal were also used after half -time. Rangnick changed a total of four players, but he noticed that the team lost the rhythm after the change. Honsak said that the team had enough chances to expand the lead, but Rangnick also drew a positive balance and was satisfied with the performance of his team.

Nevertheless, a tragedy overshadowed the sporting event. Before the game, a minute of silence was held in memory of the victims of a killing spree in Graz, in which ten people were killed. Rangnick and his players agreed that this evening was primarily about winning the game and surviving the 90 minutes. Sabitzer emphasized that despite the tragic context, the focus should be on the game and success.

Thanks to the victory, Austria remains in the race for the World Cup qualification and shows promising approaches under the direction of Rangnick. The next challenges in the group are already at the door.
