Christmas tree from Lower Austria wows the EU Parliament!

A festive Nordmann fir now adorns the portico of the parliament in Austria. The 6 meter high tree was selected from St. Marien, the home community of Federal Council President Franz Ebner. He proudly emphasized that the tree not only plays a decorative role, but also spreads a symbolic message of peace: “In such troubled times, we should focus on what is essential to us,” such as Volksblatt reported.

At the same time, the Lower Austria Chamber of Agriculture opened the domestic Christmas tree season with a special inauguration of the three and a half meter high Nordmann fir for the EU Parliament. This tradition, now in its 17th year, aims to bring Christmas spirit to Brussels. The tree, which comes from the Rodingersdorf region, was handed over by MP Elisabeth Köstinger on the first weekend of Advent Christmas tree reported.

Additionally, this year marks the 200th anniversary of the first Christmas tree in Vienna, a custom introduced by Fanny von Arnstein. With around 2.35 million natural Christmas trees being erected in Austria, domestic Christmas tree producers are an important factor for the economy and the environment, as over 90% of the trees in Austria are grown themselves. On average, the local trees only require 40 kilometers to be transported, which means a positive contribution to environmental protection.
