Burning car triggers devastating forest fire - fire brigade fights for control!

At around 10:00 a.m., a burning car triggered a dramatic forest fire in the Rax area, which quickly spread through strong wind and dry conditions. The flames spread to an adjacent forest and required the use of numerous firefighters, such as Small newspaper reported. Fire brigade spokesman Stebal explained that the steep terrain, which is mainly forested with pine, made the extinguishing work more difficult.

The situation is serious: State Councilor Stephan Pernkopf announces that additional extinguishing helicopters have been requested. This increases the number of helicopters used to five. The exact time when the fire can be brought under control remains uncertain. Experts estimate that the extinguishing work will continue until at least Sunday. This is not the first devastating forest fire in the region, because as early as 2021, a similar fire was spread to around 115 hectares within a few hours, such as ORF Lower Austria added.

There are also reports on other forest fires in South Tyrol and in the Mühlviertel. In the Vinschgau in South Tyrol, around 100 firefighters are fighting a fire that has affected over 100 hectares since Thursday, while a smaller fire was successfully contained in Hirschbach, Upper Austria. In many cases, the causes are still unclear what makes the situation more worrying.
