New shine for Austria Klagenfurt: Rolf Landerl as head coach?

The SK Austria Klagenfurt faces significant changes in the management. According to Laola1, Günther Gorenzel, the previous managing director, will vacate his post. The association is already looking for a new head coach, whereby Rolf Landerl is considered the top favorite for this position.

Rolf Landerl was most recently assistant coach of Carsten Jancker, who only managed four games as the trainer of the Klagenfurter and is considered failed in the club. His contract expires at the end of June and Jancer could not avert the impending relegation. Before that, Landerl worked as the coach of the second team of Carinthian since July 2024 and has already gained experience in Admiral 2nd league, including as head coach at SV Horn and Admira Wacker.

New managing director on board

In another significant decision, those responsible announced that they have signed Günther Gorenzel as the new managing director. The official message states that the conversations with Gorenzel could take place in a confidential setting and a quick agreement could be reached. Zeljko Karajica, the main shareholder of the association, emphasizes Gorenzel's great experience and refers to him as a profit for Austria.

Gorenzel, who already worked at FC Carinthia from 2000 to 2002, brings a diverse career that includes stations at Austria Vienna, Grazer AK and TSV 1860 Munich. According to his commitment there, he plans to establish the SK Austria Klagenfurt at the current level in the medium and long term and to regain the trust of the people in the region.

Change of coach and its effects

Change of coach in football are often a hotly discussed topic. A look at the scientific analyzes shows that such changes can bring both positive and negative effects. According to research from the TU Kaiserslautern , which have examined around 4,000 games and 150 change of coaches in various leagues, that a change of coaching often for a short-term performance increase can contribute. These increases can be measured on average up to 16 game days after the change.

The reasons for the improved performance could be dissatisfied within the team under the previous coach. A new trainer often brings a breath of fresh air and can help break up crusted structures. Nevertheless, the scientists agree that trainers need time to familiarize themselves with new environments and to form an optimal team.

The SK Austria Klagenfurt is therefore an exciting time, while fresh impulses are to be set both on the trainer and management level. It remains to be seen whether the desired measures will bring the desired success and stabilization of the association.
