Mikl-Leitner is fighting for fair energy prices: trouble about network fees!

The Governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, made it clear that improvements are required in the current draft of the Electricity Economic Act (ELWG). The draft is currently in the parliamentary process, and Mikl-Leitner has spoken out for a fair cost compensation for network expansion. She emphasizes that the wind turbines in Lower Austria make a significant contribution to both the Austria -wide climate boards and energy independence. In this context, Mikl-Leitner also demands a uniform shoulder to the entire republic for affordable energy prices to avoid negative effects on small and medium-sized photovoltaic operators.

A central concern Mikl-Leitner is the critical attitude compared to the planned network fees for powered electricity. It warns of new taxes that could limit investments in renewable energies in particular. It also calls for a clear differentiation between household systems and large commercial systems. The expansion of renewable energies must be promoted by fair framework conditions, since affordable energy is crucial for prosperity and competitiveness.

Changes in the Electricity Economic Act are necessary to take into account the increasing expenses of the network operators. According to the Energy.gv.at from investments in the expansion, modernization and digitization of the power grid, as well as inflation adjustments and increasing interest. Currently, around 450,000 small systems, mostly through photovoltaics, produce solar power to self -consumption, which leads to an increase in self -stream generation.

Although this self -sufficiency leads to a reduction in the power supply from the network, sufficient network connection remains necessary. According to e-control, 94 % of the network costs are currently mainly borne by the lovers. A reforming of the network charges has therefore been decided: the network usage fee is collected by consumers and feeders, and there is a merging of network duties and network refuge to form a new network connection. The aim of the new regulation is a more efficient use of the power grid, which is due to enter into force on January 1, 2027, depending on a timely ELWG decision.

New regulations on internal market adjustment in relation to the network costs also have an impact on the tariffs stressful to the end consumer. In regions with strong additions of wind and solar energy, lowering the network charges are expected. According to Federal Network Agency , average households with an annual consumption of 3,500 kWh 2025 can expect savings of over 200 euros, especially in areas with a lot of renewal Electricity generation.

In an evaluation for various network operators, it was shown that, for example, the e.DIS Netz GmbH saves savings of approx. 100 euros and WEMAG Netz GmbH even expected over 200 euros. This shows that the changes in the electricity market and the extension of renewable energies not only bring ecological advantages, but can also be a financial relief for consumers.
